Silent rooms, muted light and subtle nuances define the work of the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi. The first comprehensive museum exhibition in Switzerland presents his celebrated interiors alongside portraits, cityscapes and landscapes.

A 20th-century great returns to the Kunsthaus

The opening exhibition on Alberto Giacometti presents key works from the Surrealist period and the world-famous sculptures of the post-war years – offering a new perspective on one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

For the first time, all works in the Collection are brought together in a dense salon-style hang. An archive and focused insights open up new approaches to the works and their history.

Monet, Warhol, Taeuber-Arp, Sherman, Picasso, Gertsch or Tinguely: ‘Icons’ brings familiar and lesser-known works from the collection into new relationships – opening up surprising perspectives on Kunsthaus Zürich.

Saturday, 13.9.2026 – free of charge

On 13 September, the Kunsthaus opens up areas that are normally off limits. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., tours, conversations, films and family activities offer new perspectives on art and the museum – all free of charge.
